Târgu Secuiesc (Kézdivásárhely in Hungarian, Szekler Neumarkt in German) is a city in Covasna county. It is also mentioned as the "city of guilds" or the "city of courtyards" and it is the eastermost Hungarian-majority city in Transylvania. It was once the center of Kézdi Seat (Kézdiszék in Hungarian), part of Three Seats county (Háromszék in Hungarian).
Three Seats county was an administrative county of the Kingdom of Hungary. The Háromszék region was a combination of three settlements (seats) of the Seclers in the area: Kézdiszék, Orbaiszék and Sepsiszék. Seclers had four more other seats - Marosszék, Udvarhelyszék, Csíkszék, Aranyosszék.
It was first mentioned as a settlement in 1407 and in the year of 1427 King Sigismund (Sigismund von Luxemburg) granted the settlement with a city title, a place for organizing markets. The name in Hungarian native language means "Kézdi Market".
