Located in the very center a few steps from the rue Centrale, the Place de la Palud is highly appreciated by pedestrians and very popular with tourists.
An animated clock features historic vignettes every hour; Wednesdays and Saturdays are market days there. Behind the square, 150 steps lead to Notre-Dame Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the country. Inside, there are sinister crypts, ominous gargoyles and stairways not recommended for claustrophobes. Climb to the top for views of the city and across the lake to Evian, France.
